Makeover Begins for Highway 50
There have been about 800 accidents reported in the last seven years along the section to be improved.
The project is expected to cost $30 million and will expand the road to four lanes. The money for the expansion was approved in a 2005 federal highway bill.
One major change is that the project will reroute Highway 50 around the town of California. Not everyone is happy about that.
"If you're just going to bypass them, then nobody's going to be able to see how well the community's growing," California resident Amanda Barker said.
