Making the Deadline
They passed the 2008 state budget last week, but there's still more work to do. The House must decide on the proposed Missouri Health Net bill by Friday evening. Other issues include a resolution to prevent judges from ordering tax increases and making English the official language in state proceedings. But not everyone in the legislature has similar priorities.
"I think we've accomplished a lot of major efforts already this session, and with Missouri Health Net and HJR 1 and 7 and House Bill 1055, if we can accomplish all those this week we'll have a greatly successful session," Rep. Carl Bearden said.
"We haven't seen a lot of fiscal responsibility here, we haven't seen a lot of leadership and as a result Missourians are going to regret that we didn't do more, didn't promote opportunity, didn't promote the American dream more and better in this session," Rep. Jeff Harris said.
Harris thinks the legislature needs to pass a minimum wage law which includes firefighters in the remaining days of session.
