Mammography Van in Action for Breast Cancer Awareness Month
COLUMBIA - One in eight women develops breast cancer, according to cancer screening nurses at Ellis Fischel Cancer Center. The center is working to spread awareness to prevent and recognize cancer earlier. In order to help spread awareness, Ellis Fischel has a mammography van that travels to 22 counties in central and north central Missouri.
Ellis Fischel's mobile mammography van staff provides mammograms, clinical breast exams and breast health education to women throughout central Missouri. Certified radiology technologists and nurse examiners provide the same level of care offered at a free standing mammography facility, but instead of you traveling to them, they travel to you.
The van travels to 62 different sites including businesses as well. Businesses can request a van visit to provide screenings for their employees. Instead of employees taking a day off to schedule a mammography check up, the mammography van can travel to their place of employment and do the check up there. The mammography van service provides women a convenient and efficient breast cancer screening. Most appointments take less than 30 minutes from check-in to completion.
The van is a 44 foot long van and it is a fully inclusive clinic on wheels. Inside the van, there's an examination room and mammography suits. It is also handicap accessible. Cancer screening nurses said awareness is key and the earlier an abnormal breast exam is recognized the quicker staff can help treat breast cancer.
Businesses interested in a visit from the mammography van can call Ellis Fischel's cancer screening services at (573) 882-4390 or 888-MAM-VAN1 (626-8261).
