Man airlifted to hospital from Noren River access in Jefferson City
JEFFERSON CITY - A helicopter airlifted a man to University Hospital from the Noren River access Monday evening, the Jefferson City Fire Department confirmed.
Division Chief Jason Turner said firefighters were dispatched at 5:31 p.m. after a report saying two people fell off a bluff overlooking the Missouri River near Boonville Rd and Hayselton.
Turner said rescue personnel decided to use a low-angle approach because of the rough terrain. They made a path using ropes and rescue tactics.
Firefighters said a rescue boat brought a man and a woman to the Noren River access.
A helicopter transported the man to University Hospital with serious injuries, and an ambulance took the woman to the hospital with moderate injuries, according to Turner.
Firefighters said they contacted railroad officials, who stopped rail traffic so they could access the area.
Jefferson City police, Cole County Emergency Medical Services and Staff for Life Helicopter assisted firefighters. They cleared the scene by 7 p.m. Monday.
