Man arrested after shooting outside apartment building
COLUMBIA — Early Thursday morning, a man was shot during an argument with a neighbor about a “no parking” sign that was in front of an apartment building at the 700 block of Demaret Drive.
According to the Boone County Sheriff’s Department, an ambulance transported the victim to a hospital where he was treated for a gunshot wound to one of his feet. He was later discharged from the hospital.
Friday afternoon, sheriff’s deputies arrested James Hanton in connection with the shooting. He was arrested for armed criminal action and first degree assault. As of Friday evening, bond has not yet been set for these offenses.
Hanton is a convicted felon in Missouri, so the Boone County Sheriff's Department said he cannot lawfully own a firearm. Hanton was also arrested for unlawfully possessing a firearm, according to the Boone County Sheriff's Department. The bond for a convicted felon possessing a firearm in Missouri is $4,500.
