Man Arrested for Break-in and Assault

COLUMBIA - On 03/24/13 at approximately 0755 hours, Boone County Sheriff's Department deputies responded to a 911 call in the 600 block of Country Squire Court. Upon arrival, deputies took a statement from the victim indicating a former acquaintance had broken into her home and assaulted her.

The victim reported hearing a window open and as she investigated the noise found 28 year old Columbia resident Jessuan Lamar Cowans entering her home. Cowans assaulted and overpowered the victim prior to threatening her with a weapon and fleeing the scene.

Deputies located Cowans at a relative's home here in Columbia, and arrested him without incident. Cowans was booked into the Boone County Adult Detention Facility on charges of: Burglary 1st degree; Armed Criminal Action; and Domestic Assault 2nd degree. As of the writing of this release, his bond has yet to be set.
