Man Arrested for Burglary After Stealing, Drinking Beer

BELLE - Police arrested Devin Gehlert early Sunday morning after he broke into a nearby home, stole beer, drank it, and passed out.

Just before 2 a.m., Belle police responded to 714 East Fifth Street, Lot 1 for a burglary in progress. The victims told officers when they returned home, they saw the suspect passed out on their couch and that he had drank their beer.

Witnesses told police Gehlert broke out a window of the mobile home to gain entrance.

Police saw Gehlert passed out in the residence. Police forced entry into the home and took Gehlert into custody.

Gehlert had an active warrant for his arrest from a June 15th investigation when three homes were burglarized. The warrant was for three counts of second degree burglary with a $60,000 bond. Gehlert's sister, Denene, was already in custody from the June 15th investigation and is being held at Maries County Jail.

Devin Gehlert was arrested for trespassing, stealing, property damage, burglary, and his active felony warrant. Gehlert is being held at Maries County Jail on $60,000 bond with other charges pending.
