Man Arrested for Spraying Deputy with Tear Gas
BOONE COUNTY - A Columbia man is in jail after spraying tear gas in the face of a Boone County sheriff's deputy who was assisting Columbia Police officers on a traffic stop Monday night near Highway 763 and Brown School Road.
Quaemonn I.L. Wilkerson, 18 was awaiting bond to be set on charges of second-degree assault of a law enforcement officer, armed criminal action and resisting arrest.
At about 11:18 p.m., a Columbia Police officer asked for emergency assistance with a traffic stop relating to a vehicle that had been reported stolen moments earlier from 2904 Rangeline Road. A nearby deputy responded to the scene and saw officers chasing two males near Highway 763 and Boone Industrial Drive.
When the deputy caught Wilkerson, the suspect sprayed the deputy in the face with what appeared to be tear gas.
The deputy then used his taser, striking the suspect who continued to spray more tear gas. Wilkerson continued to resist and was finally subdued after a Columbia Police officer tasered the suspect again.
The other suspect, a 16-year-old male, was caught in the area by Columbia Police and turned over to juvenile authorities on charges of tampering and resisting arrest.
