Man charged in fatal shooting of suburban St. Louis woman
CLAYTON (AP) - A St. Louis man is jailed on $500,000 bond after being accused of last month's shooting death of an 86-year-old woman who body was found in her suburban home.
67-year-old Mark Patton of St. Louis is charged with second-degree murder, armed criminal action and first-degree burglary.
Authorities believe Patton entered Terry Tobey's home on June 4 and forced her at gunpoint to write him a check, then shot and killed her.
Tobey's body was found days later.
Online court records don't show whether Patton has an attorney.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch says court records show Patton pleaded guilty to five counts of forgery and one count of stealing in 2007 and was sentenced to seven years in prison.
He also has a pending Jefferson County case against him for theft.
