Man charged in Mount Vernon murder
MOUNT VERNON (AP) - A Carthage man is charged with first-degree murder in a man's shooting death in Mount Vernon.
Mount Vernon Police Chief David Hubert said 32-year-old Kevin E. Stafford was found dead in his home Sunday.
Fifty-year-old Robert Waite Jr. was charged Monday with first-degree murder and armed criminal action. He is being held in the Carthage city jail on $500,000 bond.
Hubert said police went to Stafford's home on a theft call around 5 p.m. Sunday. They returned after another call about 6:30 p.m. and found Stafford dead of multiple gunshot wounds.
Ozarksfirst.com reported that Hubert says the suspect's daughter was in a relationship with Stafford in the past.
Online court records don't indicate that Waite has an attorney.
