CRAWFORD COUNTY - An 89-year-old man died in a car accident early Monday afternoon.

Authorities reported that Elmer Brand, of Cuba, Mo., was driving westbound in the eastbound lane of Interstate 44 six miles outside of Cuba. Brand was pronounced dead on the scene.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says Brand's vehicle ran into a semi truck head-on, which was driven by 50-year-old Ranjit Dhillon from Palmdale, California. While the truck only retained moderate damages, Brand's vehicle was totaled.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says Brand was not wearing a seatbelt.
