Man Fatally Shot by Cassville Officer
CASSVILLE (AP) - A southwest Missouri man has died after being shot by a police officer.
Cassville Police Chief Dana Kammerlohr says the shooting happened Tuesday morning after the officer was called to a Cassville home to investigate a disturbance.
Kammerlohr says when the man allegedly assaulted the officer with a pipe, the officer shot him. The man died at a hospital in Springfield.
The Monett Times reports the officer was treated for injuries at a Cassville hospital. He has been placed on administrative leave during an investigation of the shooting by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Barry County Sheriff's Department.
Police have not released the name of the man who died.
