Man Hit by Tractor-Trailer on I-70 Overnight
BOONE COUNTY - Early Monday a tractor-trailer unit hit a pedestrian on I-70, sending him to the hospital.
The crash occured when the vehicle, westbound on I-70 near mile marker 128, attempted to swerve to avoid hitting 23-year-old Nicholas Braun walking on the outside westbound lanes of traffic. However, the driver was unsuccessful and hit Braun near the passenger headlight.
Braun was taken to The University of Missouri Hospital with life threatening injuries. According to the man's roommate, who is a KOMU 8 reporter, doctors later said the injuries consisted of a broken arm, thumb, and other scrapes and are not life-threatening. The driver was uninjured.
Columbia Police say excessive speed, alcohol, or inattention of the driver are not believed to be causes. The driver voluntarily submitted to a chemical result of his blood and results are pending.
