Man pleads not guilty to murder and armed criminal action
COLUMBIA - Anthony Lamarr Shegog pleaded not guilty to murder and armed criminal action Monday.
Columbia police arrested 57-year-old Shegog in Oct. 2014 in connection with the murder of Walter Lige on Pecan Street and Washington Avenue.
A female witness who shared an apartment with Shegog told officers Lige and Shegog came to the apartment together, and Shegog became jealous that Lige was talking to her. She said that is when Shegog stabbed Lige.
Officers later found a knife with what appeared to be blood on it. Authorities say the knife matched the description the female witness gave.
The incident all unfolded in Julie Davis's backyard. She said she heard her dogs barking and went to her back door to see what was happening.
"They're always going down there yelling and screaming, " Davis said. "I didn't think nothing of it."
Once she got to her back door she said she saw a man lying on the ground in her backyard.
"I couldn't believe it, "she said. "I mean, I'm standing there, and there they are trying to revive him."
Officers took Lige to University Hospital where he died shortly after.
Shegog remains in the Boone County Jail.
