Man Riding Across U.S. Hits Columbia
COLUMBIA - The man riding 50 miles in all 50 states is doing his Missouri leg Monday morning.
David Landsberg will begin his journey around 7 a.m. He's leaving from the Cyclextreme Bicycle Warehouse in Columbia. Landsberg will be riding a loop on the MKT Trail 10 times in order to complete his 50 miles.
Landsberg is doing all of this to promote organ donations. In 1987, doctors found out Landsberg had a kidney disease. In 1997, Landsberg had one of his kidneys removed. The following year, he had his second taken out. In 1999, Landsberg became the only person without kidneys and a spleen to compete in a triathlon. Landsberg had no kidneys or spleen until July 4th of 1999 when doctors were able to find a matching donor.
Landsberg is the founder for the Society for Organ Donor Awareness or SODA. His group tries promoting organ donations by doing endurance events like the one he is participating in this summer.
