Man sentenced to life plus 20 years
JEFFERSON CITY - Attorney General Chris Koster announced today Anthony Balbirnie was sentenced to a life sentence plus 20 years in the Missouri Department of Corrections.
Balbirnie's trial started in June in Cooper County. He was charged with second-degree murder, second-degree statutory rape, tampering with physical evidence and the abandonment of a 15-year-old girl's body. All of the sentences will run consecutively to an unrelated drug charge Balbirnie is currently serving.
“This man will spend his life in prison for these horrible crimes,” Koster said. “I hope the judge’s sentence will allow the victim’s family to begin the healing process.”
Assistant Attorneys General Darrell Moore and Gregory M. Goodwin prosecuted the case against Balbirnie.
