Man to serve seven years for enticement, molestation of 13-year-old girl
AUDRAIN COUNTY - A Vandalia man was sentenced to seven years in jail after he encouraged a 13-year-old to have sex with him.
Curtis J. Lasley, 34, pleaded guilty to felony enticement of a child, first-degree child molestation and a misdemeanor of sexual misconduct. Lasley touched the teenage girl and encouraged her to have sex with him during the summer of 2016.
The victim said at sentencing the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney and a group child abuse advocates helped her overcome Lasley's actions.
"I was having nightmares and couldn't sleep, and I have lost so many friends but have gained them too. I have so much support in this room it shows me that I have people who care," she said. "Without [their] help, I wouldn't have been able to do this. BACA (Bikers Against Child Abuse) isn't just a group of bikers who came into my life, they made me feel protected and loved. They aren't just bikers to me, they are family. Thanks to you guys, I don't have to be afraid anymore."
Audrain County Prosecuting Attorney Jacob Shellabarger said children often feel responsible for their abuse when only adults are the ones responsible. He credited the victim with bravery and courage for coming forward and overcoming Lasley's "circle of influence."
