Manhunt in Callaway County leads to felony arrest
CALLAWAY COUNTY - Deputies of the Callaway County Sheriff's Office arrested a man early Wednesday night northeast of Fulton off of Country Road 123 near Wildflower Road.
John Atterberry, a 43-year-old male from Portland, Missouri, is now in custody on charges of several felonies, according to a press release from the Callaway County Sheriff's Office.
Sheriffs responded to a call Wednesday afternoon around 3:30 p.m. on account of suspicious activity along State Road UU near Country Road 113.
Upon arrival, they encountered Atterberry, a wanted fugitive. Atterberry then fled deputies on foot, causing several other deputies to be called in as well as Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers.
Responding units, including a K-9 unit, set up a perimeter. At around 7:00 p.m., deputies encountered Atterberry and resumed their chase before apprehending him near Country Road 123.
Atterberry had several warrants out for his arrest at the time of his apprehension on Wednesday, including warrants for domestic assault and burglary. Wednesday night he was arrested for unlawful possession of a firearm, stealing and property damage.
Callaway County Sheriffs report that Atterberry stole firearms from a vehicle on State Road UU on Wednesday. Their investigation is ongoing.
