Many in Dellwood Back Police
DELLWOOD, Mo. (AP) -- A St. Louis area municipal police department is getting support from residents.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that more than 100 residents of Dellwood attended a meeting Monday after word spread that the city council might consider dissolving the police department and contracting with St. Louis County police.
Many at the meeting said officers are more like family than a city service. Some shared stories of officers helping them with personal problems and going out of the way to make them feel safe and secure.
But City Attorney Donnell Smith said the department has issues that have prompted the outsourcing exploration. He did not offer specifics.
The city department has 16 officers.
