JEFFERSON CITY - Crowds of protesters gathered at the Capitol today to bring awareness to genetically modified foods made by companies like Monsanto. Marchers want the public to know what they are eating and how to avoid the health and environmental dangers those foods cause.
More than 250 cities participated in rallies across the U.S. and in 55 other countries. March coordinator Eric Swegle says genetically modified organisms have no place in the food supply and marching is the best way to stop these companies.
"Spreading awareness is pretty much the only way we can get everybody to come together to unite for the greater good," Swegle says.
Swegle encourages visiting www.localharvest.orgto find local organic farmers and their products. That way people can see whether they use GMO's or not.
