Marshall Jazz Festival Welcomes Back Native Son
MARSHALL - Marshall-born jazz musician Bob James plans to interrupt his world travels to be in his hometown for a jazz festival that bears his name.
The 3rd annual Bob James Jazz Festival is scheduled this weekend in the central Missouri city.
James was born in Marshall and has gone on to record nearly 60 jazz albums, including a new one with David Sanborn that is scheduled to be released May 21. He tours the world with his group, Fourplay.
He plans to join with other local musicians during this weekend's jazz festival. But he tells The Marshall Democrat-News that he most enjoys catching up with old friends when he returns to his hometown.
And he says he hopes to return to the Bob James Jazz Festival for years to come.
