Medal of Honor Recipient Visits Mizzou
COLUMBIA - The community packed Jesse Auditorium Tuesday night and welcomed Salvatore Giunta, the first living Medal of Honor recipent since the Vietnam War. Giunta was able to share his story with the community and students.
A video of how he saved his squad from an ambush in Afghanistan lead into his entrance and a standing ovation. Giunta explained he is just soldier who did what his fellow soldiers would do for him.
Travis McCarthy, Secretary of Mizzou Student Veteran Association, got the opportunity to have dinner with Guinta, along with 15 others, before the event. McCarthy described the experience as humbling.
The presentation was followed by a 30 minute question and answer session, where audience members could talk to a real life hero.
