Johnson compared the plans to different cars, from a Yugo to a Cadillac. He said he went with the Model A, or cheapest, to avoid a penalty if he changed his mind later.
"I don't think it was confusing," he added. "It took a lot of time."
The Columbia Senior Center had experts on hand Wednesday to help people enroll or change their plans.
"They had all the paperwork, and we visited with them and they showed me what all was to be done," said Kay Smither. "And they filled out all the paperwork for me so I didn't have to remember it."
The American Association of Retired People recommends getting forms in by Dec. 8, although the last day technically to turn them in is Dec. 31.
