MedZou Enters Contest To Win $50,000
COLUMBIA - The MedZou Clinic is competing in the Pepsi Refresh Project for a chance to win a $50,000 grant. The grants are going to help fund great ideas around the U.S. If they win, MedZou will use the money to purchase imaging equipment.
"We are trying to get money for radiographic imaging. That's a service we can't provide right now because we need funds for it," said MedZou volunteer Mita Patel.
MedZou is a student-run medical clinic that provides free primary healthcare to people who are uninsured. However, MedZou currently does not have radiograph services, including x-rays, ultrasounds or colon scanning technology.
"Patients come in and they may need an x-ray or a CT scan, but we don't have anywhere to refer them. They can't afford it and we can't afford it currently, so all we can do is hope we get this money and can add that service," said Patel.
With money from the Pepsi Refresh Project, MedZou would be able to provide those services.
"We can't completely diagnose them, even though we have lab results. We're almost 100 percent sure that they have this, but we really need the imaging to fully diagnose them," said Patel.
The contest runs during the month of November. Anyone can vote, but it is limited to once a day. To vote, visit www.refresheverything.com/medzou or text 103787 to PEPSI (73774). You can also vote via Facebook by installing the Pepsi Refresh Voting App and searching MedZou.
