Meeting Improves Communication
The state's Homeland Security Advisory Council discussed its regional plan to create a standard for local input on state preparation.
One goal is to improve communication among government agencies and departments during disasters. Council members say emergencies like Hurricane Katrina have re-emphasized the state's disaster plans.
"When you have something that happened in another state, you can look and see what maybe didn't function as well as it could have in that area," said Doyle Childers, head of the Department of Natural Resources. "And you try to make sure that it does function adequately in our state."
Missouri's Homeland Security Advisory Council meets once a month.
