Memorial Proposed for Murdered Police Officer
So, the department is trying to start 2006 on a good note by honoring officer Molly Bowden who was shot and killed while on duty early last year.
The Columbia City Council was expected to approve a memorial Tuesday night at its regular meeting. The memorial will name part of Nifong Boulevard, between Forum Boulevard and Bethel Street, after Bowden.
Police Chief Randy Boehm says officers have been through a lot in the past year, are trying to keep their spirits up.
"That's devastating. There is definitely an open wound there that will take a long time to heal," Boehm admitted. "I don't know if we'll ever completely heal from that loss, but we try to make sure that we are supporting each other."
The memorial would take effect Feb. 10, exactly one year after Bowden died.
