COLUMBIA - The second annual 5/10k Race to Action, in support of the Rehab A. El Buri Foundation was held Saturday morning in Peace Park. The event had activities for all ages, including a bounce house and music.
Rehab A. El Buri was a Columbia resident and University of Missouri graduate. El Buri was diagnosed with stage four melanoma at the age of 24. She passed away on March 6, 2011 and the Rehab A. El Buri Foundation was started to promote and support the ideals and values she believed in.
El Buri's sister, Jude El Buri, said "Rehab was always interested in doing the small things that she knew would make a big difference."
El Buri referenced a time that her sister held a bake sale for her friend who needed surgery and ended up raising $20,000.
This is the foundation's fourth event and all funds are used to support local projects and melanoma research.
