MIAA Bestows Academic Honors to 72 Lincoln Athletes
JEFFERSON CITY- The MIAA honored 72 Lincoln University athletes for their academic performances during the 2012-13 school year when the league released its annual academic awards on Monday.
In addition to the 72 Blue Tigers listed on the MIAA Academic Honor Roll, Lincoln also had six students earn MIAA Academic Excellence Awards and 10 athletes receive Scholar Athlete Awards.
To earn one of the league's academic excellence awards, student athletes must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 4.00 and have at least two terms of attendance at the certifying member institution, excluding summer terms. Qualifying for this honor from the Blue Tigers were seniors Nicketa Coombs (women's track & field), Kristina Hein (softball), Clair Lorenz (softball), Ryan Rohmiller (baseball). Sophomore Patrick Evans (baseball) and freshman Asim Manuel (football) were also recipients.
The Scholar Athlete Award requires a 3.5 grade point average through at least two semesters of attendance, excluding summer terms. Coombs and Hein also represented Lincoln on the Scholar Athlete Award list, as did seniors Brianna Akers (softball) and Michelle Cumberbatch (women's track & field). Sophomores to receive the award were Anna-Kay James (women's track & field), J.J. Johnson (football) and Sam Kircher (softball). Three freshmen on the women's track & field team received the award as well, including Juneille Barker, Jonelle Campbell and Monique Thompson.
