COLUMBIA -- Missouri tight end Michael Egnew was selected in the third round of 2012 NFL Draft by the Miami Dolphins on Friday night. NFL.com predicted the former Tiger captain to be drafted in the third round after his impressive showing at the 2012 NFL Combine earning a grade of 71.5 out of a potential 100.
Egnew earned top performer status for tight ends in five out of the seven categories. In the vertical jump he recorded 36.0 inches to tie for first position with Oklahoma's James Hanna, LSU's DeAngelo Peterson and Temple's Evan Rodriguez. Egnew also took the top spot in the broad jump with 131.0 inches (10' 11"), setting a new combine record. The 6'5", 252 lbs. senior also took fourth in three categories. He ran a time of 4.62 seconds in the 40-yard dash, clocked 7.03 seconds on the three cone drill and earned a time of 4.32 seconds on the 30-yard shuttle run.
Egnew becomes the first player drafted from Missouri in 2012 and is now the third Tiger All-American TE drafted in the last 5 NFL Drafts. He is also the highest drafted tight end from Missouri since Kellen Winslow was drafted by San Diego in 1979 as the 13th overall draft pick.
