COLUMBIA - Michael Porter Jr. announced his commitment to the University of Missouri Friday.

Michael Porter Jr. is the number one basketball recruit in the 2017 class, according to ESPN. He averaged 36.2 points, 13.6 rebounds, 5 assists, 3.2 steals, and 2.7 blocks per game in his senior year, being named Gatorade Player of the Year as a member of Nathan Hale high school in Seattle on Wednesday.

Porter Jr. was committed to the University of Washington until the Huskies fired head coach Lorenzo Romar March 15. He was then released from his scholarship Thursday.

Michael Porter Jr. is the first recruit to commit under new head coach Cuonzo Martin. Michael's dad, Michael Porter Sr. agreed to be an assistant coach for Mizzou Thursday.

Michael Porter Jr. played at Father Tolton Regional Catholic high school in Columbia, winning a Class 3 state championship in 2016. He moved to Seattle when Romar hired Michael Porter Sr. before the 2016-2017 season.

Two of Michael Porter Jr.'s sisters, Cierra and Bri, played for Mizzou women's basketball under head coach Robin Pingeton, their aunt.
