NEW YORK - Former Missouri basketball standout Michael Porter Jr. was selected by the Denver Nuggets at No. 14 in the 2018 NBA Draft Thursday night.

The 6-foot-11, 19-year-old forward will join Nikola Jokic, Gary Harris and Jamal Murray in Denver, which just missed the playoffs last season, finishing 46-36.

Porter Jr. is the highest drafted Tiger since Keyon Dooling was selected 10th overall in 2000.

The Denver Nuggets are owned by Kroenke Sports & Entertainment, headed by University of Missouri alumnus Stan Kroenke. Kroenke also owns the Los Angeles Rams, who he moved from St. Louis in 2016.

Porter Jr. came to Mizzou prior to last season as the number one recruit in the nation. He played his first three years of high school basketball at Father Tolton Catholic High School in Columbia and his final year at Nathan Hale High School in Seattle. Porter Jr. helped guide both schools to state championship titles.

Porter Jr. played two minutes in Mizzou’s season opener against Iowa State in November, tallying two points and two rebounds before sitting the bench with a back injury.

He underwent microdiscectomy surgery later that month, which forced him to sit for three months.

The coveted freshman took the floor again on March 8 in the first round of the Southeastern Conference Tournament in St. Louis against Georgia. In a 62-60 loss for the Tigers, he scored 12 points on 5-of-17 shooting and grabbed eight rebounds.

Porter Jr. took the floor again in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Mizzou took a 67-54 loss to Florida State. Porter Jr. had 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Porter Jr. made headlines one day prior to the draft when he signed an endorsement deal with Puma. Puma, with Jay-Z serving as its creative director, re-launched its basketball division this year after a 20-year absence.

Porter Jr. joined other notable draftees to sign with Puma including Deandre Ayton and Marvin Bagley III, who were drafted first and second overall, respectively.
