Mid-Missouri Prepares For A Wintery Blast
Many shoppers said they weren't too concerned about the threat of snow and ice, but they wanted to be ready.
John Randolph, a Westlake Hardware customer, said, "everybody else is buying it, I figured I'd better get a bag. I fell into the frenzy."
Customers also stocked up on de-icer and bags of sand. The Westlake Hardware store in Jefferson City has already sold more than 700 bags of tube sand to help on the roads. Westlake manager Randy Miller says two bags of sand help prevent small cars from sliding and four or five bags help add weight to trucks and SUVs, while even bigger vehicles need a little more.
Miller says the best advice is to cover the basics, "Be prepared. Have your car ready, have your home ready. And if salt and sand don't come in handy now, they're sure to be useful at some point this winter."
Snow is expected to begin falling around mid-afternoon on Thursday, with about two inches of accumulation in Columbia and Jefferson City by the time everyone heads home from work.
The snow will continue through Thursday night with heavy winds and low visibility. By mid-morning on Friday, expect 8-14 inches of snow.
