ASHLAND - A large section of Ashland is under evacuation until Ameren workers can fix a major gas line break at North Main St. and Red Bud. Homes, businesses and the middle school are evacuated as a precaution. The Southern Boone County School District says middle schoolers are safe and currently on the high school track waiting for the evacuation to end.
Workers in the area tell KOMU 8 construction workers hit the line. An Ameren crew just arrived on the scene to fix the leak and say it could take two hours to repair the leak. Streets are shut down around the intersection including a portion of Broadway, Main and Red bud. Businesses along Broadway and Main are also under evacuation. Our reporter on the scene, Emily Spain, says you can see the gas rising out of the pipe. Emergency officials say there is not too much concern thanks to the day's high winds. But the evacuation took place as a precaution.
