LONDON - Missouri athletes will be showcasing their talents on one of the world's biggest stages in the coming weeks. Previous medal winners and medal-hopefuls alike from Missouri will compete in the 2012 London Olympic Games.

Christian Cantwell came from behind to win the silver medal in shot put in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Now, he's back for more. Cantwell grew up in Eldon and went to MU. He was a multi-year Big 12 Champion in shot put while at MU.

The 2012 shot put competition will take place on August 3.

Greco-Roman wrestler Spenser Mango is from St. Louis. He competed in the 2008 Olympics and took eighth but has since earned a No. 1 ranking in the U.S. Mango will compete in the 121-pound weight class on August 5.

Jennifer Nichols will compete in women's team and individual archery. She was born in Kansas City, and this will be her third Olympics. Archery events begin Friday and will continue through August 2.

From neighboring Illinois, Dawn Harper hails from East St. Louis. She won the gold medal in the 100-meter hurdles in the Beijing Olympics and looks to defend her title in the same event in 2012. The 100-meter hurdles preliminaries will take place on August 6 and the semifinals and finals will follow the next day.
