Missouri basketball signs two recruits for 2015
COLUMBIA - Kevin Puryear and Cullen VanLeer are the newest members of the Missouri Tigers basketball team.
Head Coach Kim Anderson announced the signings for the 2015 class this afternoon.
Puryear, a 6-foot-7 forward from Blue Springs, MO., averaged 19.2 points and 8.6 rebounds last season as a junior.
VanLeer put up 21.9 points per game for Pacific High School last season helping his squad to a 20-5 record.
"They are two of the top players in the state of Missouri, and we are elated that they have decided to stay home and be members of the Tiger basketball family," Anderson said. "Additionally, they are both high character young men who are winners."
The Missouri Basketball Coaches Association honored Puryear with First-Team All-State and has been a big part of Blue Springs South's to a 43-6 record the last two seasons.
"Kevin is a versatile, combo forward who brings a great blue collar, tough mentality that fits the culture we are trying to create here at Mizzou," Anderson said. "He can shoot it from the perimeter or go inside and mix it up. He takes great pride in being a Missouri Tiger."
Missouri kicks off its regular season with UMKC Friday night at Mizzou Arena at 8 p.m.
