Missouri Department of Conservation looking for elk killer
SHANNON COUNTY - The Missouri Department of Conservation is investigating the death of a bull elk recently found along the Current River.
A hiker notified the department on December 29.
The elk appeared to have been shot. Investigators said the skull plate and antlers were removed with a chainsaw and the rest of the carcass was left intact.
Department staff transported the elk's body to the Department's Conservation Research Center in Columbia for further investigation.
The elk is one of the animals that are part of the department's elk restoration and management efforts and it is illegal to kill the animal in Missouri.
