JEFFERSON CITY (AP) - Advocates of people with eating disorders are urging Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon to spare a program for them from cuts this year.

Despite a 2010 law creating the Missouri Eating Disorder Council, it hasn't been formed because it never has been funded.

Nixon cut funding for the council out of the 2012 budget. Lawmakers again inserted money for it in the 2013 budget, which takes effect July 1.

Nixon is expected to decide this week whether to make cuts to the new budget.

Nixon's office has received dozens of emails and letters from people imploring him to preserve funding for particular programs, including the Missouri Eating Disorder Council, public colleges and universities and Area Health Education Centers.
