Missouri Education Officials Announce New Initiative
JEFFERSON CITY (AP) -- Missouri education officials have created a video to highlight a new initiative calling for the state to rank among the top 10 in academic performance by the year 2020.
Currently, Missouri ranks closer to the middle on most education measures. The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education's new six-minute video is called "Top 10 by 20 -- Missouri Proud." To reach the goal, education officials say, people statewide will have to pull together.
Education Commissioner Chris Nicastro has said the effort will require better-prepared teachers, more effective instruction, higher standards, rigorous assessments and additional quality early childhood education.
