Missouri Lawmakers Work on Transferring Credits Between Schools Easier
JEFFERSON CITY - Missouri lawmakers are working on a bill that would make it easier for college students to transfer credits. Senate Education Committee Chair David Pearce is sponsoring the bill which would require all two and four year public higher education institutions to create a list of 25 pre-requisite classes that are transferable among all public universities and colleges in the state.
The bill passed through the House of Representatives with just three votes against it, and was also approved by the Higher Education committee with some minor changes. With just about 4 weeks left in the legislative session Pearce is confident he can get the bill passed.
The bill is not supported by Democratic House Representative Steve Webber from Columbia. Webber said he does not want Missouri to just "pass out degree's" and this bill will take away from the quality of some institution degree's.
