Missouri man arrested after 2-hour standoff
IRON MOUNTAIN LAKE (AP) - An eastern Missouri man is jailed after both a shooting and a standoff with police.
The Daily Journal newspaper in Park Hills, Missouri reports that Jeremy Rutherford was wanted in connection with a shooting at Iron Mountain Lake on Wednesday. He was arrested Saturday following a tense standoff.
Iron Mountain Lake Police Chief Tim Hansen says officers learned that Rutherford was staying at a home and went there to apprehend him Saturday morning. Hansen says Rutherford shot at an officer. Three people described as hostages were in the yard, but officers moved them out of harm's way.
Rutherford surrendered after a two-hour standoff. He is charged with first-degree assault, armed criminal action and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Authorities say more charges are likely.
