Missouri Pro Sports Teams Providing Support to Joplin
KANSAS CITY (AP) -- Several of Missouri's professional sports teams are taking donations and offering money for tornado relief efforts in Joplin, Mo., and Reading, Kan.
The Kansas City Royals and Kansas City Chiefs are contributing $35,000 apiece to Heart to Heart International for relief efforts, while the St. Louis Cardinals are pitching in $25,000 for Joplin.
The Chiefs are accepting donations of bottled water and cash on the east side of Arrowhead Stadium until 7 p.m. Tuesday and from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday. All financial donations will go to Heart to Heart, an Olathe, Kan.-based relief organization, while the bottled water will be distributed through the Salvation Army.
The Missouri Mavericks hockey team is taking donations at its team store at the Independence Center until 6 p.m. Wednesday.
