Missouri River race to St. Louis begins
KANSAS CITY (AP) - About 600 paddlers were headed east down the Missouri River Tuesday to St. Charles for the start of the Missouri 340 race.
The Kansas City Star reports the race started in Kansas City, Kansas. The race supports water preservation.
The racers have 88 hours to finish the 340 miles from Kaw Point in Kansas City, Kansas, to St. Charles, Missouri, outside St. Louis.
Organizers said they expected only about two-thirds of the paddlers to finish. They'd be battling high temperatures in the 90s.
