Missouri Soccer to Begin Exhibition Play on Friday

COLUMBIA - The Missouri women's soccer team is set to open their 2011 campaign with an exhibition match against the Fighting Illini of Illinois at 6:30 pm on Friday at Walton Stadium. Admission to the contest is free.

The Tigers bring in 11 returners and 14 new faces from last year's 7-10-2 (5-5 Big 12) squad. This will be head coach Bryan Blitz's 16th season at the helm of Mizzou soccer and he is joined for the third year by assistant coaches Todd Shulenberger and Shaunna Daugherty and volunteer assistant Danny Graville.

Illinois finished last year with a record of 13-5-1 with an NCAA Tournament appearance and comes in the exhibition ranked No. 24, according to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) preseason poll.

The Tigers will kick off their regular season schedule against University of San Diego in San Diego, California on August 19th and open the home slate at Walton Stadium two days later, on August 21 at 6:30 pm against Eastern Illinois.
