Missouri softball sweeps day two of doubleheader in Clearwater
CLEARWATER, Fla. — Missouri softball won both its contests Saturday, which was the second day of the South Florida Tournament.
The Tigers (16-11, 0-2 SEC) defeated North Dakota State 13-4 in the day's first game. Then, they defeated the host team South Florida Bulls 13-4 in just six innings.
Mizzou scored 15 of its 16 runs in innings five through seven against North Dakota State (10-19).
Mizzou freshman shortstop Braxton Burnside had a record setting day. She hit two grand slams, one in the fifth and sixth innings. Burnside finished 3 for 5 with 10 RBI.
The 10 RBI for Burnside is a single game school record.
Mizzou continued its momentum in the day's second game against the Bulls (19-14). The Tigers scored five runs in the second inning, mainly as a result of two wild pitches from the Bulls.
The Tigers added eight more runs through seven innings, highlighted by a three-run homer from senior catcher Kirsten Mack in the fourth.
Mizzou, now 3-1 in the South Florida Tournament, will conclude its stay in Clearwater Sunday morning against Monmouth.
