Missouri Task Force 1 departing for Hurricane Matthew
COLUMBIA - The Boone County Fire Protection District announced on Thursday Missouri Task Force 1 will be leaving its headquarters in the next few hours to the southeast coast for Hurricane Matthew.
Missouri Task Force 1 was activated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency to deploy as a Type III team, which includes 35 personnel, 10 ground support personnel and over 100,000 pounds of equipment.
According to the release, the goal is to arrive at the Dobbins Air Force Base in Marietta, Georgia by 3 p.m. Friday.
At least nine other states are joining Missouri Task Force 1 in heading to the coast.
Lineworkers from five Missouri cities, including Columbia, are also on the way to Florida to help out. The workers will stage in Tallahassee in preparation for repair efforts.
Hurricane Matthew has already ripped through Haiti, killing hundreds of people as of Thursday night.
