MARSHALL, Mo. -- A 15-6 run in the second half gave the Missouri Valley College women's basketball team a two-point advantage with two minutes remaining, but the lead wouldn't hold up as the Vikings fell 53-51 to Hannibal-LaGrange.
Poor shooting plagued the Vikings in the first half -- they shot 21 percent from the field -- but their deficit was only 25-21 at halftime thanks to perfect free-throw shooting.
The Trojans led for most of the second half, but MVC chipped away with a 15-6 run that put them ahead by two points with about two minutes remaining. Hannibal-LaGrange, though, would regain the lead and hold on to win after Vikings forward Gabi Morales missed a three-pointer launched from half court before time expired.
Senior guard Lindsi Jackson led all Vikings scorers with 15 points in addition to nine rebounds while Morales finished with 14 points and nine boards. Forward Ashleigh Spencer scored 18 for the Trojans, the most on her team. MVC lost the game despite outrebounding Hannibal-LaGrange 45-27.
The Vikings play on the road against Missouri Baptist at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
