Missouri women's basketball moves on to second round of NCAA Tournament
AUSTIN, Texas - The Missouri women's basketball team pulled off the 10/7 upset Saturday, taking down BYU 78-69 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
The Tigers held the lead for almost the entirety of the last three quarters. Missouri also held a double digit lead four different times. BYU answered with a run to cut down the Tiger lead each of the first three times.
Missouri turned the ball over 19 times, but a sky-high shooting percentage from the field helped the Tigers cancel out their miscues.
Freshman Sophie Cunningham (20 points on 7-of-10 shooting), junior Jordan Frericks (19 points on 8-of-13 shooting) and senior Morgan Stock (14 points on 4-of-5 shooting) all helped Missouri shoot nearly 57 percent from the field.
Cunningham had 16 of her points in the third quarter, helping the Tigers pull out to an 11-point lead after three.
The Tigers will play the winner of Saturday night's Texas/Alabama State game in the second round of the tournament on Monday.
