Missouri Wrestling falls to North Carolina State

No. 5 Missouri Wrestling dropped it's second dual (13-2, 8-0 MAC) when they faced North Carolina State (14-1, 4-1 ACC) in Raleigh, North Carolina Sunday, falling 18-17.

Redshirt freshman Daniel Lewis defeated No. 6-ranked junior Max Rohskopf 6-1. The win was Lewis' sixth over a ranked opponent this season, and he improved his record to 21-4.

Redshirt junior Lavion Mayes and redshirt senior Blaise Butler scored major decisions for Missouri in the dual. The Tigers won five bouts in the dual, two of which Mayes and Butler earned bonus points.

Mayes led redshirt sophomore Beau Donahue for the Wolfpack 6-1 after he scored a two point near fall going into the second period. Mayes had multiple takedowns in the second and third periods and won by major decision 14-4.

Missouri trailed 9-7 at the intermission, but the Tigers picked up the first two wins following the break whcih gave the Tigers the 14-10 lead. Butler earned his sixth straight win after Lewis defeated Rohskopf to start the second. Butler tagged to two takedowns on sophomore Nicky Hall early, he and won by major decision 12-4.

Junior J'den Cox gave the Tigers a 17-13 lead with one bout remaining after he defeated redshirt freshman Malik McDonald 5-1. The Wolfpack edged the Tiger with after two-time National Champion and redshirt senior Nick Gwiazdowski defeated freshman James Romero by technical fall, 17-1, at 1:42.

The Tigers have already clinched their spot in the NWCA National Duals after decisively winning the Mid-American Conference Regular Season Championship. Missouri will find out who its opponent will be once the organization announces the pairings either tonight, Sunday, Feb. 14, or Monday, Feb. 15. Missouri will also visit one Big Ten school for a singular dual match either Sunday, Feb. 21 or Monday, Feb. 22.
