Missourians Wonder How Tuition Money is Being Spent
A bill last session created a committee to find out what the higher learning institutions were doing with their money and how much funding them would require.
Monday, the commissioner for higher education presented a formula to help measure each school's performance. The commissioner said each school needs a separate pool of money for mandatory expenses such as utilities. That way, the state can more accurately gauge schools' progress
"What it does is recognize each of the institutions for the mission responsibility it has and then rewards them or penalizes them based on the circumstances of their conduct and that is what performance is about," Commissioner of Higher Education Gregory G. Fitch said.
Next legislative session, the committee will present the formula to the house and senate for approval.
