Mizzou baseball loses 5-2 at Texas
AUSTIN, Texas - The Mizzou baseball team fell, 5-2, in game two of its series at No. 8 Texas on Saturday at Disch-Falk Field in Austin. The loss drops Mizzou to 13-14on the season and 1-3 in Big 12 play. Sophomore Scott Sommerfeld knocked in the two Tiger runs in the loss as he tallied a pinch-hit one-out single to left field, scoring a pair of runs in the seventh inning.
Junior starter Matt Stites was tagged with the loss despite pitching a career-high 8 innings while throwing 118 pitches. He gave up five runs and nine hits as three of the earned runs came in the first three innings. He was unable to solve Texas' Lucas Kephart, who went 2-4 at the plate while driving in all five of the Longhorn runs.
Texas starter Hoby Milner earned the win for UT as he pitched 6.1 innings while scattering just three hits and giving up just two earned runs. In all, Mizzou totaled just four hits in the loss. Freshman Dillon Everett tallied the lone extra-base hit for the Tigers on the day, lacing a two-out double off of the left field wall.
Mizzou and Texas will play in the series finale tomorrow at noon.
